Let me introduce you to a friend of mine, Kelly Lotsu-Morgan. He was a student last spring in my Honors New Testament course, and he quickly made an impression on me with his joyful demeanor, attentiveness and inquisitive nature. When I learned that he was a computer science major, and after a bit of direct exposure to his careful academic work, I approached him asking for a bit of help with getting this website started. Kelly is almost single-handedly responsible for everything that you see on this site. I couldn’t be more pleased.
A Really Busy Guy
I’m not the only one Kelly has been helping out. Over the summer he did fine work for McCurdy Real Estate and Auction, helping them with their digital presence. Then, when we came back to the university for the fall semester, we discovered that we all had access to a new AI tool which he designed, Calendar Hero. (I used it while building out my schedules for the semester, and it was a game-changer). He's also been helping the university with many of their other AI projects.
“I Want to Be Kelly Morgan”
Kelly, a preacher’s kid from Ghana, is a joy to be around, and the sort of student that God in His Providence brings to us from time to time. I don’t believe that I have ever seen him without a smile on his face. Ironically, he came to us by mistake. (Of course, we don’t believe in luck or accident around here, and I am certain that God brought Kelly to Wichita for our good and for his own).
The other day, when I was observing Kelly insert some code for my website, I quipped, “You’re going to be the next Elon Musk.”
Without hesitation Kelly replied, “I don’t want to be Musk. I want to be Kelly Morgan.” I could only concur that this would be a far better aspiration for him.
Giving Honor to Whom Honor Is Due
I am so deeply grateful to Kelly for the work that he invested in my simple website. He listens to my ideas patiently, though I am certain that my limited grasp of the mechanics of the code that makes it all work can make working with me a trial. When I have asked for slight revisions, he has gone back and changed them without hesitation or complaint. Honestly, I had not planned to release the website until September. Kelly’s eagerness to get it up and running pushed me to publish it a whole month earlier.
There are many reasons that I wanted to start this website. I did not anticipate that this friendship would be one of the most immediate benefits. I can’t wait to see what else Kelly is going to go on to do. Romans 13:7 tells us to “give honor to whom honor is due.” Thank you for spending a few minutes of your time reading these words of honor for Kelly and the beautiful work that he has poured into Crumbfed Mongrel.
